Why do you need identification tools in forestry ?

Because the productive chain involves the handling of huge quantities of material and implies numerous operator manipulations, traceability rapidly becomes a complex issue.
Routine quality control is an indispensable step for process improvements.

Genetic fingerprinting represents the method of choice for the verification of the identity of clones.
It is also the ideal tool for the identification of individuals and to build database of the germplasm collection or the elite trees.

Why use MultiTAAG® kits for your genotyping ?

Microsatellites markers (or STRs - Short Tandem Repeats) are highly polymorphic co-dominant markers.
They are known to be powerful and precise markers, although their use with traditional methods can be time consuming. To overcome this problem, TAAG Genetics has developed the MultiTAAG® fingerprinting kits.

Our genotyping kits combine the simultaneous amplification of highly polymorphic microsatellite markers by multiplex PCR with the use of fluorescently dyed primers, allowing you to obtain a highly informative fingerprint in a single reaction.

Advantages

Only one amplification reaction per sample
Fast
Cost effective
Accurate automated detection on capillary sequencer
No more cross-contamination
Flexible: you can also ask for our full genotyping service and receive an easy-to-read allele table

We can also design custom kits for your species of interest.

Other uses of MultiTAAG® kits

Additionally, genetic fingerprints allow paternity testing to investigate parentage in open-pollinated breeding systems or to check controlled crosses, estimation of the genetic diversity within a breeding population, etc.
Finally, it is also one of the most important tools to combat illegal logging.
